Happy Summer!! And, happy summer vacation! This year we did an early summer vacation to the OUTER BANKS of NC!! We were so excited to hit the road and drive, yes DRIVE, from New Orleans, LA to Duck, NC. This crazy drive took us 17 hours!! When we got there, I told my crew to enjoy this trip because we’d never be back. Boy was I wrong. We are going back!! The Outer Banks is beyond beautiful. What strikes you the most are the colors. The tan of the sand, the blues of the sky and waters, the pinks of the sunsets and sunrises. The colors are peaceful and enchanting. And, Hawthorne Threads captured the magic of the Outer Banks in their fabric line!
Since we were going the Outer Banks, I just had to make my girls new sundresses with this gorgeous fabric! Megan got a sleeveless Maize with Galloping Border in Peony. This is a double border fabric and the peony color fades to white in the center. I love the ombre finish to it.
Mia got a Periwinkle sundress. I made the bodice using Musings in Multi and the skirt with Wild Horses in Sky and Watermarks in Seaglass for the border. This dress is so peaceful!!
For our first sight seeing day we went to Corolla, NC to visit the wild horses. These sundresses were perfect!! Did you know that there are wild horses on the Outer Banks? They are believed to be descendants of horses that traveled to the New World 500 years ago with the Spaniards. They are so gorgeous! Hawthorne Threads captured the beauty of these animals so well.
The horses roam all over the northern part of the Outer Banks. The only access to them is with a 4WD on the beach. The horses roam among houses and along the dunes. We managed to get pictures of the horses on the dunes. Our driver stopped the jeep and we all piled out for a quick photoshoot! Hubs and I even posed too!!
Hawthorne Threads also was kind enough to send me a quilt made from the Musings in Multi and Winding Path in OuterBanks. I honestly didn’t want to send this back. The prints make a perfect beach blanket.
I made everything using the quilting substrate. This quilting substrate is softer and still has great structure for dresses. I also like that you can order a wider width. You can order a lot less fabric. The wider width is perfect for blankets!
No trip to the beach is complete without getting into the ocean!! Sandy, wet sundresses make for happy times and great memories!! Thanks so much Hawthorne Threads!!
